There are many special things about Dolph Lambert: his perfect physique, his amazing good looks and his wry sense of humor are among the many things that we love about him. For me, whenever I’ve watched him in his scenes, he always seems to take on a romantic role and too, he is always so eager to please his partners. There’s a sensual quality about him that seems to just come through. And during his photo sessions, that quality is immediately apparent. And he has a fun-loving side, one that comes across in documentary footage; I’ve always gotten the impression he acts as a big brother/mentor to the younger guys, especially the Kinky Angels- Kevin Warhol in particular. It’s in this role I find him to be the most endearing.
Yet, like any artist, he must be willing to show some other facets to his persona, ones that he may be hiding deep down within him. At times it takes a photographer, artists in their own right, with a gift of his own to help bring out “that certain something”. Enter Spanish photographer Joan Cristol. In today’s collection, Joan Cristol captures something else about Dolph in these images, something a little wilder, more daring and edgy and a little more kinky.
When photographing Dolph, Cristol chose two distinct ‘looks’ for him, which you will see in the stills later on from the video of this photo session. The more sporty look was chosen for presentation on BelAmiOnline and the other set of pictures (a brief sample are shown here) appear over on the KinkyAngels site, in an episode called ‘Kinky and Dolph’.
I feel that Cristol’s work is truly dazzling and he brings out a different side to the guys that may not have been captured before in a more ‘standard’ layout. When I look at one of his images (non-Bel Ami related), I honestly can’t tell if it’s a true-to-life painting I’m looking at, or a photograph. His work is completely unique, showing essences of both. How does he do it? I’ve never been quite able to figure it out. And I’m not entirely sure I want to find out the answer for it would be like a magician giving away the secrets to his magic tricks. However, there is no denying that the results are mind-blowing. If you are interested in seeing more of Joan Cristol’s work featuring the Bel Ami boys, the art book Rebel is available either through Amazon or through my friends at TLA Video.
